Periodicals are sources that are published at regular intervals. Think of a magazine or a newspaper when you think of an example of a periodical.

A type of periodical that is particularly relevant for college work is a journal. A journal is a periodical like a magazine, in that a new issue is published every month or quarter, but the articles that appear in journals are scholarly and are related to a particular subject of academic study.
